All games will be played at Mt. Pleasant High School located at

In June 1998 Minister Jeff Heard responded to a vision and call from God to research and plant a Generation X church for minorities in East Side San Jose. While not feeling led to immediately start a church, leaders kicked off Bible Study at the East Valley YMCA.

The focus of the program was to implement a non-traditional, non-denominational, comfortable environment for young people of all walks of life to come and study the Word of God. At the inauguration of Bible Study, young people from all over the community attended the celebration, which included a free pool party.

The Bible Study in 1998 led to the official planting of a non-traditional church, Rohi Temple of Reconciliation, as planned. The grand opening of RTR included an Easter celebration that provided an egg hunt, pony rides, face painting and games. The community was able to enjoy this festive occasion at no cost. Over 100 community members came out to enjoy the Easter Celebration, as the Word was shared and the fellowship between neighbors was achieved.

Over 10 years later the church is still thriving — Praise God! You can now find RTR at http://www.rohichurch.org.

Experience the legacy of the Midnight Basketball Program! The Jeffery S. Heard Memorial Tournament will honor the life of the program’s late founder, Jeffery S. Heard who implemented this nationally acclaimed program on the east side of San Jose in 1995. Jeff Heard, who was a strong youth advocate and community leader, believed that there was a generation of highly-skilled and talented young people that were overlooked and cast out by society. As a result, Heard set out to lay the foundation of the San Jose/Santa Clara Chapter of Midnight Basketball Program in order to reach this generation of youth. His trail blazing work has paved the way for thousands of youth to achieve their potential in life. Fourteen years after the inception of the program, the vision of Jeff Heard remains strong today.
